The global mobile advertising market will top $100bn in 2016, comprising more than half of all digital ads for the first time, according to figures from eMarketer.

This mobile and tablet ad spend represents more than 400 per cent increase from 2013. Between 2016 and 2019, eMarketer predicts that mobile ads will nearly double again to $195.6bn.

That will account for about 70 per cent of all digital advertising and one-quarter of total media ad spending worldwide.

By next year, eMarketer predicts that there will be more than 2 billion smartphone users in the world with one-quarter of them in China.

US and China in particular will lead the mobile ad spend, with US advertisers spending $40bn on mobile ads, more than doubling the total from 2014, eMarketer predicts.

Advertisers in China will spend $22bn to reach consumers on smartphones, tripling its 2014 amount. The UK, Japan, and Germany will also see significant increases in the next few years.
