Pentagram: AMC ‘Mad Men Monument’
Brand: AMC
Title: Mad Men Monument
Agency: Pentagram
Agency Website: http://www.pentagram.com/work/#/all/all/newest/
Partners-in-charge and Designers: Lorenzo Apicella, Michael Bierut and Emily Oberman
Designer: Jonathan Correira
Associate and Designer: Matthew Clare
Designer: Dragan Skuljevic
Project Coordinator: Julia Lindpaintner
Published: March 2015
Short Rationale: Over the course of seven seasons, the landmark series “Mad Men” has charted the rise of ad man Don Draper in the “Golden Age” of advertising in 1960s New York. AMC has unveiled a special installation that commemorates the show’s impact in the city. The monument takes the form of a sleek, elegant bench that features the iconic graphic of Draper from the show’s opening title sequence. Pentagram project coordinator Julia Lindpainter worked closely with AMC and the bench’s fabricator, DCL, to manage the design’s careful execution.
The bench is located outside the Time & Life Building, the fictional home of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (changed to Sterling Cooper & Partners in the sixth season), where Draper and fellow characters Roger Sterling, Peggy Olson, Joan Holloway and Peter Campbell work in the series. “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner and stars Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Christina Hendricks and John Slattery were at the sculpture’s unveiling.

Peck & Company: The 404 Hotel & Kitchen ‘Branding’
Brand: The 404 Hotel & Kitchen
Title: Branding
Agency: Peck & Company
Agency Website: http://peckandco.com
Creative Director: Benji Peck
Art Director: Benji Peck
Copywriters: Joy Sarnacke and Benji Peck
Photographer: Caroline Allison and Neely Tabor
Design: Benji Peck and Rex Runyeon
Published: January 2015
Short Rationale: The 404 presented a unique opportunity to blend the roughness of the building’s exterior with the pristine, modern finishes of the interior. We took this concept to task in the design & execution of the brand, with a mix of high end printed materials and utilitarian train stamps. In an effort to keep the 2 identities of The 404 separate but equal (Hotel & Kitchen), we created a subset of distinguishing H & K marks, each complete with it’s own color palette & stationery suite. It was important that the Hotel feel luxurious, while the Kitchen highlight the cuisine.

Short Rationale: For Lowe’s, the brand has created a custom ad in response to positive buzz they’ve received around its NCAA “Build Your Home Improvement Confidence” campaign. A commercial that demonstrated how Lowe’s can help give men so much confidence in their do-it-yourself projects that they now feel free to pursue some of their wildest dreams, has spawned an infomercial for a glow-in-the-dark cat hat – a fake product featured in the TV spot that was brought to life for Lowe's customers. The infomercial will give the first 2,250 responders a chance to receive a free glow in the dark cat hat, along with a coupon good for a discount off their next purchase at Lowe’s.
