John Lewis has been named Ad Agency of the Year at the annual British Arrows Awards with Dougal Wilson, long-term director of their seasonal campaigns, walking away with the chairman’s award.

This year’s gong was doled out on the strength of a sentimental Christmas ad starring Monty the Penguin, which went on to power a merchandising phenomenon and much goodwill toward the employee owned department store.

No less than 17 other gold medals and 26 silver awards were handed out on the night; including an agency of the year accolade handed to AMVBBDO and recognition for production company of the year handed to Blink.

Another advert to win big on the night was Honda’s Civic Type R’s ‘The Other Side, which was named commercial of the year having nabbed gold’s for best web-based film over 90 seconds and interactive web-based commercial categories.

Jury president Daniel Bergmann said; “The Internet is becoming the leading medium, entertainment and technology are merging with advertising. This year, British Arrows have recognised and incorporated this shift.”

Established in 1976 the British Television Advertising Awards celebrate the best television, online, outdoor and cinema commercials produced by British-based advertising agencies and production companies.
