As the world was temporarily cast into darkness as the result of the rare solar event, brands took to social media in an attempt to eclipse the eclipse.
Unfortunately for those in the UK, cloud coverage hindered many peoples' attempts to view the incident with social media being one of the primary means of viewing stunning pics of the solar body overlap.
As a result, #eclipse2015 trended on Twitter.
