Comparethemarket looks to emulate Orange Wednesdays with 'Meerkat Movies' two for one cinema promotion

Comparethemarket has launched a two-for-one cinema ticket offer called ‘Meerkat Movies’ in partnership with Cinema First, the UK cinema industry body.

From 3 April, new Comparethemarket customers will qualify for the cinema ticket deal every Tuesday or Wednesday for a whole year. Existing customers will also be allowed early access to the offer.

Welcoming in the new promotion, Barry Jenkins OBE, chair of Cinema First, added: “This deal represents a meeting of minds. Cinema First exists to persuade more people to go to the cinema, whilst comparethemarket has realised the potential to tap into the big screen experience as a loyalty programme, to reward their existing customers and attract new ones.”

Mark Vile, Comparethemarket marketing director, said: “Entering the world of film with Meerkat Movies is a hugely exciting development for us. This is the biggest step change for the brand since launching the Meerkat Toy Collection in July 2011 and signals our commitment to rewarding customer loyalty.

“We strive to make comparing and switching as easy and straight forward for customers as possible. Meerkat Movies brings this approach to the world of entertainment, offering the magic of the movies for less every Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Karen Stacey, chief executive at Digital Cinema Media (DCM), concluded: “Comparethemarket has recognised the power of the big screen and their huge commitment is testament to the strength of our compatible audiences, which are early-adopting, socially connected and first in the queue when a new film is released.

“We’re really looking forward to working closely together to shape the growth of the industry.”

This follows O2 last week, in a way resurrecting Orange Wednesdays in a scheme which exchanged cinema tickets for old Orange network sim cards.
