Elon Musk states automated car safety could lead to humans being banned from driving

Tesla head Elon Musk has said driverless cars will be "a solved problem" in "a few years" adding that the tech could reduce road traffic accident so drastically that humans may be banned from driving.

The futurist, speaking at Nvidia’s developer conference in San Jose, said: “Soon you’ll be able to tell your car, take me home, go here, go there, and anything and it will just do that.

“In the distant future people may outlaw driving laws because its two dangerous, you can’t have a person driving a two tonne death machine.” He added that removing human error from the equation could reduce road accident related deaths and injuries.

Following media reports sparking a backlash from driving enthusiasts, Musk asserted that he was all for driving but that such a legislative decision - when the time comes - would be out of hands.
