Radioplayer is to be the first UK radio app to be integrated with Apple CarPlay.

The Radioplayer app, which will function on Apple’s car dashboard system, is a joint venture between the BBC and commercial radio groups Global, Bauer and RadioCentre.

It was designed to cement UK radio’s place on Apple’s interactive dashboard with conventional car radios set to be slowly replaced by more sophisticated systems including Apple CarPlay and Ford Sync.

Michael Hill, managing director of Radioplayer, said: “The fact we’ve been able to work with Apple to integrate Radioplayer so seamlessly, demonstrates that UK radio is ahead of the curve, particularly in cars.

“We’re proud to be leading the way, and grateful to the BBC, Global, Bauer, RadioCentre, and the rest of the industry for supporting our collaborative vision.”

Radioplayer worked with All In Media to create the platform which switches between DAB and FM signals depending on which will provide the best quality stream. It will be available to download in Apple CarPlay compatible motors in the summer.
