Interpublic Group (IPG) has announced that Matt Seiler will step down as global CEO of IPG Mediabrands while remaining as chairman of the group through 2015 to ensure a smooth transition.

Henry Tajer, global chief operating officer as of January 2014, will now serve as CEO and will re-locate full-time to New York from Sydney.

He currently spends a portion of his time in his role of CEO of the group’s Australian operations.

Michael Roth, chairman and CEO of Interpublic, said in a statement that the announcement is part of a long-term game plan and is a natural evolution for the management team.

“It acknowledges Matt and Henry's contributions to the agency's achievements and positions them to focus on specific areas in which they can both continue to make key contributions to Mediabrands and IPG going forward,” he said.

Roth said that as chairman, Seiler will continue to provide a broad strategic vision for the balance of this year.
