US millennials struggle to keep up with international counterparts in tech skills
According to The Washington Post, US millennials struggled to perform during the PIAAC test, an aptitude test meant to “figure out how prepared people are to work in a complex, modern society.”
The test, administered by ETS to adults in 23 countries, targeted basic math, literary, and technical skills.
In all categories however, US respondents aged 16-34, ranked either at the very bottom of the list, or close to it.
“We were taken aback,” ETS researcher Anita Sands told the Post. “We tend to think millennials are really savvy in this area. But that’s not what we are seeing.”
Both Japanese and Finnish millennials scored the highest in all categories.
