And in fifth place, Madonna took a slick tumble during a live performance many viewers thought was part of her routine.
Nonetheless, social media users were quick to mock the star's misfortune on Twitter. Madonna issued an explanation for the fall on Instagram, stating her “beautiful cape was tied too tight”.
And finally, the evening also marked a return to the stage for hosts Ant and Dec to the Brit Awards after a 14 year hiatus. Their on-stage selfie was one of the most retweeted images of the evening.
