Reddit donates 10% of ad revenue to charity

Social news platform Reddit is to donate 10 per cent of its 2014 ad revenue to charity and is in process of asking its members to vote on their preferred charities to receive a slice of their largesse.

Over the past year Reddit has been soliciting nominations from registered charities to participate in the scheme with the site applying its own filters and anti-vote-manipulation code to weed out trolls and anyone attempting to cheat the system.

Anyone with an account registered prior to 18 February is eligible to take part in the voting process, with the ten most popular non-profits receiving $82,765.95 each.

Users are entitled to vote for as many charities as they wish but can only vote for each organisation once, polling closes on Wednesday with the winner set to be announced on Thursday.
