Out of the more than 440,000 mentions online around the 2015 Oscars, only 11.2 per cent were focused on the actual films, according to global social intelligence platform Synthesio.

While 67.4 per cent of the conversations revolved around the awards show itself, 17.5 per cent were about the actors and 3.9 per cent were about host Neil Patrick Harris.

Leah Pope, vice president of global marketing for Synthesio, said in a statement that she thinks it’s “quite shocking how little of the conversation revolves around the movies themselves”.

“It is clear that what people want to see and what people are talking about are the Oscars parties, the fashion and musical numbers more than anything else,” she added.

Synthesio analyzed global conversations surrounding the Oscars on social media platforms, blogs, forums, and mainstream online media.
