Facebook has created three TV adverts to underline the social network’s role in everyday life and the meaningful connections which arise through its use.

The social network which boasts 1.3bn global users has launched its first UK TV campaign ‘Friends’ with the release of three new ads.

The first is ‘Our Friends’ – featuring an instrumental cover of Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’.

Second is ‘Friend Request’ which ran with the Cure’s ‘Close to Me’.

And finally is ‘Girl Friends’ utilising Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’.

A Facebook spokesperson told the Drum: “Facebook is a place where friends go to make meaningful connections. This regional campaign celebrates those connections and the different kinds of friendship that enrich our lives both on and off Facebook.”

The campaign emerged after Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg stated that advertising may not be an effective source of revenue in developing nations as he tries to spread web access through his initiative Internet.org.
