Fabric app launches on Apple App Store, closes $1.5m seed round from investors
Smart app “Fabric,” which encourages users to build and share want-to lists for movies, TV, music and travel, has launched on the App Store.
The app has just closed a $1.5m seed round from top tech and entertainment investors including Machinima chairman Allen Debevoise and Disney’s former digital head John Spinale.
Using a patent-pending four-directional swipe user-interface, Fabric lets its users to swipe their way through hundreds of curated lists from the community, share their own as well as rate past experiences.
The app’s algorithm uses personal interest data to match users with compatible members and their lists. It also allows users to request want-to lists based on people who share common interests, while providing opportunities to connect with like-minded people.
Additionally, the app links to commerce partners including ITunes, Amazon, and Google Play to make purchases easier.
Jon Vlassopulos, Fabric’s founder and CEO, said: “Everyone wants to do more of what they love. We all try and keep lists of what we want to do but they are scattered across our minds, post-its, notebooks, emails or different services.”
Meanwhile, John Spinale, former Disney digital head and Fabric investor, said the platform could prove a valuable outlet for advertisers looking to understand purchase intent.
Spinale added: “The exciting thing for me about Fabric is that it is a massive intent engine that captures valuable consumer intent data across multi-billion dollar advertising categories like travel and entertainment.
“Everyone wins; this is the way advertising should be. In the future I can see Fabric becoming your personal concierge and connector,” and said that now when someone swipes down to add Costa Rica to their travel list, an airline could present an offer.
Fabric currently hosts lists from celebrities including Amy Smart, Olly Murs, and Duran Duran. The company was founded in 2013 and is based in San Francisco.
