EastEnders has been crowned the most tweeted about soap on Twitter, twice, as fans rush to social media to share their suspicions about the ‘Who killed Lucy?’ murder mystery plot line, according to figures compiled by social analytics firm Kantar.

The first of two hour long live special edition broadcast on BBC One initially smashed the record with 508,678 UK tweets, reaching a peak of 19,662 tweets when the character Jane waggled her accusatory finger in the direction of another Albert Square denizen, Ian.

This record proved to be short lived however as a second part, aired 45 minutes later, proved this particular line of inquiry to be a red herring when the true killer, spoilers ahead….. was revealed to be Bobby.

That twist resulted in even greater numbers of tweets being sent with a total of 519,359 being tweeted during the episode, peaking at 32,638 a minute when Bobby was unmasked.

Capitalising on this success the BBC will air a 30 minute live follow-up at 20:00 tonight in which Bobby’s fate will be sealed, concluding a week-long series of live special editions to mark the long-running soaps 30th anniversary.
