A web security firm has spotted malicious coding in the Jamie Oliver website which redirects users to a page offering the download of a file which could "wreak havoc on users’ systems".

The MalwareBytes security blog exposed the danger of visiting JamieOliver.com, stating that the site -the UK’s 536th most viewed receiving 10 million hits a month - was compromised by hackers.

The hijacked website would redirect visitors to a Wordpress page where it would initialise a download of harmful software to their devices.

On the infection, Jérôme Segura, a senior security researcher at Malwarebytes, said: "Contrary to most web-borne exploits we see lately, this one was not the result of a malicious advert, but rather a carefully and well hidden malicious injection in the site itself.

"The webmasters will need to look for additional evidence of infection, rather than simply restore or delete the offending script as typically; stolen login credentials or a vulnerable plugin can allow an attacker to gain access to a remote server and alter it."

The issue seems to have been corrected by the time of this article's publication.
