Nissan has brought global ambassadors and global football stars Yaya Toure and Max Meyer to front its sponsored ident around Champions League matches.

The short clips debut tonight (17 February) and show the footballer’s flashing their skills in quirky scenarios riffing on how Nissan tests the technology in its cars. One ad (see above) sees Schalke midfielder Meyer heading goalward a pass from Manchester City’s Toure while strapped to a jet-powered chair as a way to showcase the car's safety.

Another clip shows both players striking balls at a Nissan vehicle as it climbs a steep gradient.

The bumper is the latest advertising to sprout from Nissan’s first season as sponsor of the UEFA Champions League. It replaced Ford after it axed its 20-year tie to Europe’s premier competition and has set about using it to unite all its football sponsorships through a shared theme of “engineering excitement” for fans.

Nissan views the sponsorship as a core part of its plans to boost awareness in the run-up to 2016, using the event to support its wider focus on emphasising its ethos instead of concentrating solely on promoting individual cars.
