Mel Edwards has been named as Wunderman chief executive, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with immediate effect.

Based in London, the role sees Edwards take responsibility for 3,000 people in 78 offices across the region, reporting directly to global chief executive officer Mark Read.

On the appointment Read commented: “Mel has done a fantastic job helping Wunderman become a formidable force in the UK. She has the right qualities, a focus on clients, creativity, innovation and new business to spearhead further growth in EMEA.”

Edwards will retain her current role as chief executive officer at Wunderman UK for the foreseeable future, becoming chairman when a successor is named. She takes on the EMEA role from Stephane Faggianelli who will be exploring other opportunities within WPP.

“We have a strong bench of leaders and great talent across EMEA,” said Edwards. “I plan to help galvanise this talent and drive evolution and innovation. I’m looking forward to working with Mark and the teams in the UK and across EMEA to help realise our big ambitions for the region.”

Edwards has been with Wunderman since 2012 helping to guide new business wins including News UK and Coca-Cola. She also created an in-house publishing capability and launched a dedicated content studio. Prior to Wunderman Edwards was chief executive officer at Lida.
