The Guardian has launched an inventive reimagining of its ‘Blind Date’ column where it enlists strangers wearing Google Glass to record their first date.

Glass put viewers in the shoes of the couple, enabling them to experience every sweet – or cringeworthy – moment. The first video was released today (Thursday 12 February) and is hosted on the Guardian Lifestyle pages and a dedicated YouTube channel.

The daters will also appear in the newspaper’s ‘Blind Date’ column.

Merope Mills, executive editor of multimedia, said: “We’re currently exploring how we can use video to showcase our content to our audience around the world in new ways.

“Developing the Blind Date format in this way is a great example of this approach and, in this instance, how we can experiment with emerging technologies to enhance our output.”

The series comes as the Guardian looks to extend its video output after recently launching a weekly Comment is Free video series and a new range of short documentaries.
