The executive’s account was compromised by a bot which spammed Twitter users with links to an external website.

A Twitter spokesperson told Bloomberg: “His account was sending spam tweets; we’ve locked the account down and deleted the tweets.”

He refused to confirm whether Noto had signed up for two-step verification - a security measure which would have stopped such a hack in its tracks.

Following the hack Noto exclaimed.

This follows Noto's previous Twitter mishap after he accidentally tweeted company plans, intended for private message last November.

Noto joined the company last July after success as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs.
