Birmingham Airport has overhauled its website to better highlight its ‘hello world’ rebrand which launched five years ago.

Developed by Connect – which won the brief over 12 other agencies having developed the original ‘hello world’ identity – the website focuses on responsiveness and functionality.

Flight, airport and destination information as well as car park booking have all been given prominence on the site with direct widgets with more direct booking widgets to be introduced around car hire hotels and holidays.

Beth Gawthorpe, marketing manager at Birmingham Airport, explained responsiveness has also been key as traffic to the site from mobile devices has grown to 60 per cent since 2010.

“The previous website was not designed for mobile platforms so the trigger point to develop a new website was due to customers not having an optimum experience on their mobiles and tablets,” she told The Drum.

The whole project took less than six months from appointment to launch.

Gawthorpe added that the next phase of will see the development of a mobile app and wayfinding service.

“That will enable a seamless digital journey from researching and booking on the website to physically arriving and departing through the airport itself,” she said.
