The premise is that Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert Di Nero, playing themselves, are “vying” for the same role as a 'wiseguy' casino owner however in a twist of fate, the role is instead offered to Brad Pitt.

The series, developed by RatPac Entertainment, is reported to have cost $70m. It was written by Terence Winter who also worked on Scorsese’s ’the Wolf of Wall Street’ and 'Boardwalk Empire'.

Director Brett Ratner, whose company RatPac Entertainment produced the films, said: "This short film is a historic event because it is the first film ever to star such legendary actors as Robert De Niro, Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt in one film together.

"Our hope is that the trailer for 'The Audition' gives audiences an early look into what will surely be an important cinematic experience directed by one of the most culturally influential directors in the history of Hollywood films."
