Apple has extended its iOS advertising platform iAd to Latin America – kicking off with Brazil and Mexico with further expansion to be rolled out later in 2015.

The Californian tech giant has enlisted digital marketing company Internet Media Services (IMS), which has previously worked with Twitter, Waze, LinkedIn, Foursquare and Spotify to help brands and advertisers tap the rapidly growing mobile sector boasting 350 million smartphone owners via Apple's platform.

Gastón Taratuta, chief executive and founder of IMS, said: “We are thrilled to help brands with a Latin American presence navigate Apple's comprehensive advertising platform,"

"IAd's rich, engaging user experience provides an unparalleled opportunity to reach and serve customers through finely-tuned targeted messages in each country."

Taratuta concluded: "With this partnership, advertisers will not only be able to access the fast growing digital and mobile markets in Brazil and Mexico, but also target Apple consumers in these regions for the first time."

This comes after Apple opened up iAd to programmatic buyers in November in partnership with Rubicon Project.

The platform, was launched in 2010 but failed to make Steve Job's predicted impact on the market, in 2013 only accounting for 2.7 per cent of the US mobile ad market.
