Sky embraces video streaming with £2.6m investment into internet video start-up
Sky has continued its steady embrace of streaming internet video after paying £2.6m to acquirea stake in Elemental Technologies, an internet video specialist, based in Oregon, Portland.
The purchase follows a pattern which has seen the broadcaster seek to reposition itself away from satellite toward streaming broadcasts and will give Sky access to its multiscreen video technology for televisions, computers, smartphones and tablets.
Sky is currently developing its next generation set top box which will offer access to recorded and on-demand programmes from any compatible device.
It will also give Sky access to Elemental’s proprietary advertising platform which can insert commercials to streamed content.
