Advertising to wave goodbye to meerkat character in dramatised Christmas Day ad

December 19, 2014 | 2 min read is set to axe one of its meerkat characters on Christmas Day in a soap opera style ad to complement its Coronation Street sponsorship.

The ad, which will air during Coronation Street and Downton Abbey, marks the next chapter for the popular meerkat campaign, which was introduced in 2009.

Coronation Street executive producer Kieran Roberts commented on the advert: "Christmas is often a time when big story-lines climax and characters can face a dramatic exit. On Coronation Street we've said farewell to iconic characters such as Hilda Ogden and Karen McDonald in our Christmas episodes and we're planning another heartbreaking farewell this year.
