YouTube has revealed the top 10 most watched adverts on YouTube for 2014, with Nike topping the chart and also taking the number two position.

Alyson Yaffe, product marketing manager at YouTube, explained how the top 10 ads were chosen: “We took a look at the ads that debuted on YouTube in 2014, and evaluated them against metrics including audience engagement metrics (watch time, likes, shares), video views, and audience retention metrics (how much of a video people watched) to come up with our leaderboard of the top ads of 2014 on YouTube.”

YouTube produced a global look back at ads that have performed well on the platform – including those which did not make the top 10 – with focus on the different areas where ads shone.

The platform noted that over one billion minutes were spent watching the top 10 ads of the year.

YouTube also pointed out that despite the fact that ads are nearly 50 percent longer this year compared to last year—averaging around three minutes each—viewers stayed tuned longer, spending around 50 per cent more time watching them.
