Channel 5 has appointed ESI Media-owned TV channel London Live’s group sales director Simon Poole as trading director – a role he will take up in the New Year.

Poole will replace former trading director Ross Belcher, who has been promoted to deputy commercial sales director – a position he will share with partnerships director Agostino di Falco, who has also become deputy commercial sales director.

His remit will include overseeing trading, alongside Belcher and di Falco who will absorb some of commercial sales director Nick Bampton’s responsibilities – who has taken on a wider role across the business since it was acquired by Viacom.

Bampton said: "I am delighted that Simon has agreed to join Channel 5. He brings considerable experience from the TV industry and is well respected by his peers. In addition the promotions of Ross and Ago are equally deserved. They have helped change the fortunes of Channel 5, worked incredibly hard and will play an important role as we integrate into the Viacom network."

Prior to joining ESI Media – which owns the Independent and London Evening Standard, last summer Poole was joint managing director of Miroma and before that he Poole was sales and marketing chief at GMTV.

Last summer ESI Media’s commercial director Jon O’Donnell spoke to The Drum about the challenges surrounding the launch of the 24-hour news and entertainment channel London Live.

Channel 5 is home to shows including The Gadget Show (pictured) and Big Brother.
