The BBC Trust has officially received the proposals for the closure of the BBC Three channel, which is set to become online-only.

The proposals also include plans for the launch of a BBC One+1 channel, extending the hours for the CBBC children’s channel and making improvements to BBC iPlayer.

A public consultation of the move is set to launch in January 2015, with licence fee payers, audience groups and industry stakeholders to be asked what they think of the move.

When plans to close the channel were announced in March, director general Tony Hall said that moving the channel online-only would save the BBC £65m.
