Fox UK has notched up its best ever audience figures courtesy of the fifth season of The Walking Dead, drawing 2m viewers per episode when repeat viewers are taken into account.

Currently in a mid-season break the show premiered on 13 October drawing 792k viewers, the highest overnight ratings in the channel’s history, figures which were soon trumped by episode 2 which drew 882.7k.

Cecilia Beacon, director of broadcasting and marketing, FIC UK, commented: “The continued ratings success of The Walking Dead shows the huge appeal for this high-quality and thrilling drama. With a dedicated and passionate fan base, our programming strategy of airing just 24 hours after the U.S. has proven to be a huge hit with viewers.”

In addition to being a television hit the programme is also popular on Twitter, with the first three episodes generating 5,271,411 impressions, including the second highest number of tweets for any UK TV show on the day it premiered.
