Kayla Boyd

Current gig: Blogger/Vlogger/Grad Student/TA/Fashionista/Super Woman, Syracuse University

Why she is nominated: Man, this girl. I'm really trying to figure out how I can tell her story in only 400 words. I've already wasted about 25 of them. Well, for starters, Kayla Boyd an inspiration to anybody who ever feels they don't fit the mold, whether it be in fashion, at their university, or simply in life. She strives to break the barrier of what it means to be beautiful.

Everything about her is big: her personality, her hair, and (I hope this isn't inappropriate) her booty! She has her own fashion and lifestyle blog, https://kaylaschaos.com/, which has about 1000 subscribers, and an Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/kaylacboyd/) with over 2000 followers.

It's safe to say people are interested in the quality content that she puts out. Not only are those numbers impressive, they are completely organic. She does nothing but SEO and Keyword targeting to attract people to her page. She has been sponsored by multiple brands without putting any of her own money into marketing (talk about an ROI). Everything she blogs about she would have bought anyway, being the fashion lover that she is.

The amazement doesn't stop there. This lady has DOZENS of published articles and is an editor for a Syracuse University newspaper (she was previously an editor at the Eastern Echo, Eastern Michigan University's News Paper). Check out some of her published work here.: http://www.kaylacboyd.com/publications.

Kayla recently completed a challenge in which she couldn't wear makeup or tame her curly locks for a month. During this time she had head shots, photo shoots, meetings with editors at big magazines like Allure, and even got to take pictures holding a real Oscar, and didn't crack once. She even inspired some other women to take on the challenge themselves. This is truly groundbreaking in the face of ever increasing beauty standards on women. In my opinion she looked just as beautiful without it!

This isn't about her looks though, this is about her work ethic and everything she does to show the fashion world what it really means to be beautiful. I think that Kayla could use this money to help promote her blog, as well as get her foot in the door at a fashion magazine in NYC (it's expensive to live there!) to keep spreading her positive message. I truly believe Kayla's efforts will lead to more attainable beauty standards for generations to come.
