November 20, 2014 | 2 min read's Joby Russel has been appointed director of online estate agency in addition to his role of marketing director at the car insurance comparison site.

Russell, who led the repositioning of the brand in 2013 with the launch of the Brian the Robot character, will work closely with James Kydd, Purplebricks’ marketing director and former managing director of brand and marketing at Virgin Media, to drive forward the advertising and marketing strategy.

On his appointment, Russell said: “The estate agency model is no longer relevant to modern consumers and is in desperate need of a shakeup. The days of browsing estate agents’ windows are long gone and there is no longer a need for consumers to pay staggering commissions to agents.

“I am excited to be part of the Purplebricks team quite simply because Purplebricks is disrupting the estate agency market as price comparison sites have done to high street insurance brokers.” is the brainchild of brothers Michael and Kenny Bruce, and aims to make the process easier for customers by producing an interactive, "around-the-clock" estate agency model, which lets people oversee each aspect of their transaction as it happens.
