Derek Appau from MediaCom and Georgie Buck from the Specialist Works have been crowned the winning man and woman of the Fittest in Media 2014 competition run by Dennis Publishing’s Men's Fitness magazine.
The final, which took place at Fitness First on Tottenham Court Road, saw the pair pick up the prize despite heated competition from other agencies.
The champions emerged after a series of trials which saw media agencies including Maxus, Manning Gottlieb OMD, Carat and Starcom MediaVest, battle it out.
Competitors were tasked with completing a series of seven exercises such as 500 meters on rowing machine, 20 kettlebell presses, 20 medicine ball slams, 20 burpees and more, as quickly as possible.
In the seven heats, Georgie Buck of the Specialist Works (pictured below) won the woman’s category with a combined time of four minutes fifty two seconds.
Derek Appau from MediaCom (pictured below) topped the men's category setting a time of four minutes and fifty four seconds.
Maxus, despite not boasting a competition winner was found to be the fittest agency overall, raking in an impressive 1649 points. Appau’s MediaCom took second with 1200 and OMD came third with 1020 points, accumulated during the qualification rounds.
Nick Hutchings, editor of Men’s Fitness, said: “All the competitors showed great determination and endurance throughout, with some really impressive times being obtained. The challenge is a fun way to make people aware of what our brand is really about.”
Claire O’Farrell, agency sales manager, added: “This competition is a great chance for us to get out and visit our clients, and gives them the chance to become really familiar with the brand.
“Getting them to take part in the challenge brings the teams together and creates a bit of healthy competition between the agencies – as if there wasn’t any already.”
