Telefónica has picked Havas Work Club to help develop its internet-of-things presence (IoT), starting with a project to develop its machine-to-machine (M2M) division’s online presence.

The agency, which won the business after a pitch against undisclosed agencies, will kick start the first phase of the project by creating business-to-business web and mobile platforms for the M2M arm.

Businesses can then use the sites to enquire about what opportunities could be open to them in the IoT environment and which Telefónica can help them with.

The move is understood to be the first phase in Telefónica’s ongoing, wider strategy to position itself at the forefront of the IoT landscape.

Earlier this year the mobile network appointed WPP-owned Joule’s global chief Daniel Rosen as global advertising director.

Rosen told The Drum the mobile network, which owns mobile operator O2, is poised to “power” the IoT and wearable tech ecosystem.

Work Club became Havas Work Club earlier this year following its acquisition by Havas.
