England to take on Scotland in industry football match next week
The Auld Enemies will meet in Shoreditch next week when England take on Scotland in an advertising and marketing industry football match.
The ‘silicon kickabout’ will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 18 November – the same day the real England and Scotland teams will meet each other for the first international north of the border in 15 years.
The industry clash has been organised by London-based PR agency Propeller and The Drum, which has offices in Shoreditch but originated in Glasgow.
Recruitment for Propeller’s England team and The Drum’s Scotland outfit is well underway and several advertising and media folk have already been called up to represent both teams.
The 90-minute seven-a-side match (with rolling subs) will kick off on Tuesday 18 November at 3.40pm at the Shoreditch High Street Powerleague. As well as bringing the industry together in an informal setting, the match will also raise money for a good cause with a £4 ‘match fee’ from each player being donated to Amnesty International.

Cameron Clarke, The Drum's managing editor in Glasgow who will lead out the Scotland team, said: "Ad agencies are used to pitch battles – but an England v Scotland clash promises to be something else.
"We still have a few spots up for grabs in the Scotland squad, so if you fancy yourself as media and marketing's answer to Andy Goram, Archie Gemmill or Kenny Dalglish then drop me a line."
Ben Titchmarsh, head of media and marketing at Propeller and England captain for the day, said: “From Gazza’s infamous ‘dentist’s chair’ celebration after skinning Colin Hendry to score during Euro 96, to the Tartan Army destroying the Wembley goalposts after a dramatic 2-1 away win against England in 1977, there’s always ‘a wee bit of spice’ to football matches between England and Scotland.
"Propeller and The Drum’s England versus Scotland media and advertising industry match on 18 November will be hard fought, but played in the right spirit. I expect both sets of lads to give a mathematically impossible 110 per cent and our match fees will be going to Amnesty International’s championing of journalistic freedom of speech, which is a great cause.”
A final few spots are still up for grabs on both teams on a first come, first served basis. If you’re a Scot in London and interested in playing for The Drum’s Scotland team please email Cameron Clarke at firstname.lastname@example.org
