HotelTonight has hired Mark Phillips as chief marketing officer as it looks to become the “world leader” for hotel bookings.

Phillips has joined the mobile-only booking app from Beats Music – the streaming service acquired by Apple earlier this year – where he was chief marketing officer.

Prior to Beats, Phillips was VP of brand marketing at King.com, maker of Candy Crush, and worked with Adidas’ on its London 2012 marketing campaign.

He said that HotelTonight’s success is down to an understanding of “what a true mobile service needs to deliver.”

“Taking their marketing to the next level on the back of their great curation, personalisation and brand is a huge opportunity and challenge about which I’m massively excited,” he added.

His appointment comes as HotelTonight eyes a wider share of the hotel booking market having recently opened four new offices in Berlin, Paris, Sydney and Toronto.

The app launched in January 2011 and has seen more than 11 million downloads as well as partnerships with over 15,000 hotels across 500 countries.
