Sainsbury’s, AMV BBDO, We Are Social and The Agency were the big winners at The Emirates last night as The Drum Network hosted its annual awards scheme, The Drum Network Awards.

AMV BBDO’s ‘Christmas in a Day’ campaign for Sainsbury’s was presented with the Marketing Strategy Grand Prix award for what the judges felt was a truly inspiring and integrated campaign, while social media agency, We Are Social was named agency of the year by winning the Agency Grand Prix Award in front of 300 people at The Emirates Stadium.

The Drum Network Awards, previously known as the MiAwards, are now in their sixth year and recognise excellence in agencies across the UK, both in terms of how successful they are as marketing businesses in their own right and the quality of campaigns that they create for their clients.

We Are Social was also crowned Digital Agency of the Year and Social Media Agency of the Year, almost exactly 12 months after the growing agency was acquired by China-based marketing group Blue Focus.

London Advertising was named Advertising Agency of the Year, while the Design Agency of the Year award went to DewGibbons + Partners and the PR Consultancy award went to Manifest London.

M&C Saatchi Mobile was crowned Mobile Agency of the Year, while The Response Team was named Media Agency of the Year.

In the key marketing categories, AMV BBDO and Sainsbury’s collected the Retail Campaign of the Year gain for the ‘Christmas in a Day’ campaign; Zenith Optimedia won the FMCG Campaign Award for Vanish and we Are Social won the Automotive Campaign Award for Jaguar.

The Agency scooped a hat-trick of awards – Southern Agency of the Year, Senior Management Team of the Year and Strategic Planner of the Year of the Year (for Matt Rees), while Helen Darlington, the founder of INK Digital, was named Agency Leader of the Year, due to the inclusive culture that she has developed within her growing digital agency.

The Chairman’s Award went to Manchester-based agency BJL, which has recently expanded into London.

Speaking of the Drum Network Awards, Richard Draycott, managing director of The Drum Network and associate editor of The Drum, said: “Until this year these awards have taken place in Manchester, but as our membership make-up has shifted and we are increasingly working with more London and South east-based agencies we felt it only right to move the awards closer to where most of our members are based. The move to London also demonstrates that The Drum Network is a national network of ambitious agencies and putting our agencies onto a national stage now gives them an even higher profile.

"The range of agencies and clients involved in the Awards this year was fantastic and really shows the appetite for awards such as these, which give agencies of all shapes and sizes the chance to show what they are capable of. The independent agency scene are the lifeblood of the agency scene and let’s face it as the huge global networks grow it is the independent agency which will fuel their growth and innovation.”
