The Drum has today launched the research for its annual Design Census, the most comprehensive review of the design industry in the UK.

The Design Census will rank agencies based on the three criteria used in all The Drum’s Census reports: financial performance, client satisfaction and peer recommendation.

Financial performance is ranked by information supplied by agencies, while client satisfaction is measured using the RAR (Recommended Agency Register) system of client ratings. Peer recommendation is measured by a public poll on The Drum website. Agencies to appear in all three rankings will then be ranked against each other to form an elite table.

Former Design Week editor Lynda Relph-Knight, recently appointed by The Drum to the newly created role of consulting design editor, will curate the project.

The research results will be revealed in spring 2015 in a supplement published with The Drum. Additionally, an extensive pdf report will provide further insights, including agency heads’ views on the year ahead, and a list published on thedrum.com will highlight the key findings.

Gordon Young, editor of The Drum, said: “The second annual Design Census published by The Drum serves as a client guide to the dynamic design sector across the country. One of the most comprehensive reviews of the UK design scene published to date, it highlights which agencies have performed well – financially, in the eyes of their clients and from the perspective of their peers.”

The Drum is calling on UK design agencies to complete an online survey by Friday 28 November in order to be put forward for the research.
