Twitter and IBM have announced a new partnership which will see the firms combine their data collection capabilities to provide more insightful marketing information to businesses.

IBM and Twitter will collate data collection tools

As a result of the deal, IBM will offer Twitter the use of its cloud-based tools including IBM Watson Analytics. Furthermore, the companies will collaborate on a set of apps to aid businesses in the marketing, finance and sales industries.

IBM will also have access to Twitter’s extensive data banks, allowing it to provide more substantial consultancy support to its clients.

Ginni Rometty, chairman, president and chief executive of IBM, said: “Twitter provides a powerful new lens through which to look at the world - as both a platform for hundreds of millions of consumers and business professionals, and as a synthesiser of trends.

“This partnership, drawing on IBM’s leading cloud-based analytics platform, will help clients enrich business decisions with an entirely new class of data. This is the latest example of how IBM is reimagining work.”

Dick Costolo, chief executive of Twitter, added: “When it comes to enterprise transformation, IBM is an undisputed global leader in enabling companies to take advantage of emerging technologies and platforms.

“This important partnership with IBM will change the way business decisions are made - from identifying emerging market opportunities to better engaging clients, partners and employees.”

Earlier this week, IBM said it will use its tracking software to monitor the progress of the Ebola virus, which has claimed over 5,000 lives so far.
