US singer Meghan Trainor has become the first act in history to enter the UK top 40 sales chart based solely on people streaming her music.

The feat was accomplished by claiming the number 33 slot with All About the Bass, the first track to benefit from new rules which credit streamed music toward chart positions.

Despite not being on sale until today Trainor’s tune racked up 1.17m streams over the weekend, powering it to the official chart, which is topped this week by Jessie J with the song Bang Bang.

Back in June the Official Charts Company updated its rules to include streaming data; attributing 100 streams to one single purchase.
