Newly formed telecoms firm Dixons Carphone has appointed Ian McGregor as marketing communications director where he will lead and develop the Currys PC World brand.

McGregor will drive Currys PC World's marketing strategies

McGregor, who formerly served in marketing roles at video game publishers Activision and EA, will also use his five years of experience as a board account director at Publicis London in the new role.

The new appointee will replace Benjamin Kaye, head of brand communications, who recently left the firm.

The firm was created in August 2014 in a £3.8m merger of the Carphone Warehouse and retail outlet Dixons. This saw the firms split group ownership 50/50 in the agreement.

A Dixons Carphone spokeperson said: “We are pleased to confirm Ian McGregor has joined Dixons Carphone as marketing communications director. Ian will have responsibility for the advertising creative, media buying, visual store comms and consumer PR of the company's Currys PC World brand.

“Previously, he has held senior marketing positions at Activision and Electronic Arts, as well as serving as board account director for Publicis. He is warmly welcomed to the team."

This comes after Dixons Carphone earlier this week stepped in to save 800 employees who lost their jobs after the Phones 4u brand entered administration.
