Hailo – the taxi booking app – has appointed former Microsoft brand director Gary Bramall to the role of global chief marketing officer as it looks to expand its global footprint.

As senior global brand experience director at Microsoft, Bramall was responsible for brand strategy, creative direction and execution, brand management and social good across all Microsoft Consumer Apps. Prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype, Bramall headed up its brand and creative services. He has also held senior global marketing roles at both Apple and Orange.

CEO Tom Barr said that he was looking to tap Bramall’s “innovative strategic marketing and communications skills” to build on the initatives it already has, including Pay with Hailo and a public API.

“I’m excited to see what bringing in someone with his creativity and outstanding reputation in the tech industry will do as he further helps us build our brand’s message,” he added.

Earlier this year, Hailo’s London offices were attacked by disgruntled cab drivers concerned that mobile taxi ordering services like Hailo and rival Uber are undermining their business.
