The Royal Mail is set to pilot Sunday opening at around 100 of its delivery offices across the UK from this weekend (7 September) in a bid to make it easier for online shoppers not at home during the day to get their parcels.

The initiative will extend the opening of selected delivery offices to seven days a week, and forms part of an on-going programme by Royal Mail to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online.

Royal Mail will also begin a trial of Sunday deliveries to addresses within the M25 motorway this Sunday.

Nick Landon, managing director of Royal Mail Parcels, said: “We are continuing to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online.

“I am delighted to pilot Sunday afternoon opening at around 100 of our delivery offices across the UK with the highest parcel volumes, and Sunday deliveries to addresses within the M25 motorway.”

In June, the recently privatised group’s express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, also launched a Sunday delivery service for online shoppers through participating e-retailers. The service is available to contract customers across the UK.

Last month Royal Mail began phasing in a new ‘click and collect’ service to 20,000 small and medium sized businesses as it moved to capitalise on its burgeoning parcels business.
