Adidas has revealed an all-black kit with an Eastern twist, designed by Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto, for defending champions Real Madrid to wear during Champions League fixtures.

The kit, brainchild of designer Yamamoto, was created to merge Madrid’s “greatness and determination” with mythical Japanese beasts, to demonstrate the team’s power.

The Eastern Dragon King will be imprinted on the front of the shirt, interlaced with the Dragon Bird, a hardy animal capable of surviving hostile environments - to show the Galactico’s resilience in the face of adversity.

The black kit, which is Yamamoto’s favourite colour, is made from ‘adizero’ ultra-light fabric to ensure the comfort of some of the world’s best players including Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

The shirt will be crowned with a mao type collar, a two-colour crest and the signature of the Japanese designer.

Only 1500 jerseys will be made available to selected retailers worldwide. It will come in exclusive packaging for consumers and follows the release of the Yamamoto f50 football boot which also features the iconic Adidas tri-stripe.

The exclusive Real Madrid kit was released in stores on Tuesday.

This comes after the sports manufacturer earlier this summer announced its worst profits in a half-decade with a slump of over 33 per cent after its golf-brand Taylormade performed poorly.
