The Gate Films launches dedicated animation arm: Pen Animation
The Gate Films has continued its expansion with the creation of Pen Animation, a dedicated animation arm.
The division, based in Edinburgh, will focus on producing animated commercials, music videos and innovative online content, and will initially be staffed by a team of four.
Explaining the move, Simon Lewis, CEO at The Gate Films, said: “We’ve had an in-house team of animators in Edinburgh for several years, working with clients from Creative Scotland to Jura Whisky, but have noticed a gap in the market recently for the kind of director roster we've now assembled.
“Animation advertising has come on leaps and bounds in recent years and we’ve seen a surge in popularity and demand for it.
“It made perfect sense to invest in a specialist branch of the company here in Scotland and Pen will play a key part in our expansion plans as we look to continue our growth over the next year.”
The animation arm will be led by Victoria Watson.
She said: “I’ve always been passionate about animation and I am extremely excited to lead this new venture. I’ve spent the past few months carefully hand-picking a selection of internationally acclaimed animators and directors to provide us with an incredibly strong and diverse roster that will offer something very different to the rest of the current market.”
