People on the Move: hires and departures at Barbour, Instagram, Facebook, Huffington Post and more

This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key hires below.

James Quarles has joined Instagram from Facebook

Barbour

Heritage and lifestyle brand Barbour has hired David Cottage as its new head of global e-commerce as it aims to become “the best British lifestyle brand worldwide by 2020”.

Paul Johnson Barnett also joins the brand as head of distribution, a role which will see him manage all Barbour’s global distribution, working alongside the global supply chain as the business expands worldwide.

Instagram

Instagram has hired Facebook's regional director James Quarles as its global head of business and brand development.

In his new role Quarles will be responsible for building a broad set of solutions for brands of all sizes on Instagram and for the overall growth of the business.

ILoveVideo

Video discovery company iLoveVideo has appointed Tom Flack as chief marketing officer, as well as head of its European operations.

His new role will see him in charge of growing the global audience of iLoveVideo.tv, developing content and strategic partnerships, and shaping the identity of the iLoveVideo.tv brand with consumers worldwide.

Wire Media

Wire Media has added Jonathan Rennie, previously assistant editor at STV Online, to its team as account director.

During his time at STV he helped launch STV Local and STV Cities, and prior to this he worked at public relations agency Weber Shandwick.

Isobel

Isobel has announced two additions to its senior team, with Bridget Fitzpatrick taking the role of business director and Sarah Frackowiak joining as head of social and account director.

Frackowiak joins from John St. in Toronto, where she worked across a broad portfolio of accounts including Mitsubish, War Child, Dr Oetker and Heinz.

Cheil UK

Daniele Fiandaca, head of innovation for Cheil UK, is to leave to focus on personal projects.

Fiandaca, who co-founded Creative Social and Innovation Social, will depart at the end of the August to concentrate on developing those events.

AnalogFolk

AnalogFolk has appointed Fame Razak as its first chief technology officer, to work across the agency’s network offices in London, New York and Sydney.

Razak, who joins AnalogFolk from Critical Mass, where he held the position of technical director, has been tasked with growing the technology offering across the agency’s network and will report to co-founder and chief executive officer Bill Brock.

Lida

Lida has appointed Sven Kaifel to join its team as head of design, where he will handle brands such as O2, Boots, Virgin Holidays and Land Rover.

Kaifel will be responsible for the agency’s entire design output across press, print DM, digital and social media for the direct and digital agency.

Dare

Dare has announced that Brian Cooper and Flo Heiss are rejoining the company, days after chief creative officer Sean Thompson revealed his plans to leave.

Cooper and Heiss will work with creative director Vassilios Alexiou, both as creative partners, with Cooper set to lead the department.

WCRS

WCRS has promoted creative team Ross Neil and Billy Faithfull to the role of executive creative directors.

Having been made creative directors at the agency in 2011, the pair will now join Leon Jaume who will continue in his current role as ECD.

Rufus Leonard

Rufus Leonard has expanded its management team, bringing on board new senior personnel and promoting from within the agency.

Alec Boere, who joins as a managing partner, will be responsible for heading up one of two business groups within the agency, alongside Joanna McGrath who has been promoted to managing partner. Between them they will oversee delivery across all accounts.

RFL

RFL has appointed Chris Rawlings as commercial director to increase commercial revenue across Rugby League, working with current sponsors and establishing new partnerships and associations with the sport’s competitions and properties.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am thrilled to be involved in a sport which I have admired for a long time,” said Rawlings.

“Rugby League is a forward-thinking sport played by outstanding athletes and watched by a family audience, which together give it a compelling commercial appeal.”

Johnston Press

Johnston Press has appointed John Bills as group managing director with immediate effect.

Bills, who has been filling the newly created role on an interim basis since June, will report to CEO Ashley Highfield.

In the role Bills will manage five portfolio managing directors as well as oversee the Media Sales Centre.

High50

High50 has hired Lucy Handley and Chantal Borciani as assistant editors as it looks to grow its editorial content.

Borciani has spent the last six years at IPC Media with a focus on travel and luxury lifestyle journalism. She was most recently at Motor Boat & Yachting magazine as chief sub-editor.

Handley, meanwhile, joins High50 from Centaur’s Marketing Week, where she was features editor, responsible for the creation of all long-form content and managing a team of journalists and freelancers.

Adroll

Following the opening of its London office retargeting platform Adroll has hired Google Italy’s Michael Bertaut as managing director of EMEA strategic sales.

Former country manager for Italy and ex-head of new business sales in Latin America, Bertaut will be responsible for building out a London-based strategic sales organisation, focusing on bringing AdRoll's cross-device, cross-platform, transparent digital advertising solutions to sophisticated larger brands and agencies across EMEA.

WRG

Global live communications agency WRG has hired senior marcomms and new business professional, David Preston.

Preston has been tasked with developing a sector-specific business strategy for WRG’s rapidly expanding business.

Kath Goodson, head of London for WRG said: “Both parties are excited by the potential to leverage David’s 20 years of global experience. His career to date has spanned the event marketing industry across both client and agency side. He’s worked across the UK, USA, France Japan, China, Singapore and Australia, most recently as VP of marketing, Europe, for internet security company, Kaspersky Lab. The sheer breadth of knowledge he offers brings many possibilities for future growth to the table.”

ImageBrief

David Gillespie has been hired as chief marketing officer for ImageBrief, an online marketplace connecting image buyers with professional photographers.

Prior to ImageBrief, David served as head of innovation, Americas for Imagination. He was also a senior strategist at Big Spaceship.

McCann London

McCann London has appointed Tom Wong to the newly created position of managing partner in charge of new business development.

Having spent over four and a half years at TBWA as development director, Wong will now lead the marketing and external communications strategy for McCann London.

Razorfish China

Digital and technology agency Razorfish has named Daniel Li as the managing director of its Beijing office to lead and expand the region’s 60-strong team.

In his new role, Li will be responsible for day-to-day operations in the Beijing office, as well as acting as client lead for one of Razorfish’s largest regional partners, Nestle.

Most recently, he fulfilled the role of general manager at Havas Life China, managing business growth for both Shanghai and Beijing.

Forever Beta

Elizabeth Haslam has joined Forever Beta in the role of account director to strengthen the integrated agency's client services offering.

Haslam joins from JWT where she led the Canon team in repositioning the brand through a series of multi-faceted, content led campaigns.

She previously worked at VCCP for almost six years working across a range of agency clients including EasyJet.
