The South Yorkshire village of Skellow has become an unlikely overnight internet sensation after Google Maps inexplicably chose an image of a naked man proudly displaying his erection as its representative image for the former mining community.

Web browsers seeking information on the village were presented with the standard body of text but readers describing the bare essentials of the place – but readers were distracted by another bare body pictured alongside.

One of those to stumble upon the mix up was David Firth who promptly tweeted a photo of his discovery before Google swiftly moved to delete the rogue snap.
