Digital advertising saw unprecedented growth in 2013, with mobile advertising revenue nearly doubling to £1bn, additionally the UK television industry generated £12.9bn.

Furthermore, ISBA applauded 2013’s digital adspend growth of 15.2 per cent from 2012 to 2013, which saw it reach £6.3bn.

Bob Wootton, director of media and advertising at the ISBA said: “As ever, it’s the really useful and comprehensive report we have come to expect from Ofcom. It shows some encouraging trends as the country emerges from the longest recession on record and confirms the experience of industry.

“The internet is surging ahead. Television is holding up well though there are some differences in the fortunes of individual broadcasters, largely driven by the success of their portfolio channels.

Wootton added: "As expected, mobile is finally coming of age though the creative challenges presented by small screens remain.”

However some commentators were less optimistic, with Jon Davie, managing director at Zone digital marketing agency saying advertisers can only hope for a few minutes of brand attention at best from consumers.

Digital advertising in the last year grew as a platform, especially after digital news overtook print news' readership for the first time this year.
