Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville will be joining newspaper, the Telegraph, as a football columnist to address the main areas of debate during this season’s Barclay’s Premier League.

Neville is widely regarded as one of the UK's best pundits

Neville, whose Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes took up a similar position yesterday with the London Evening Standard and Independent group, will give an exclusive interview to the Daily Telegraph before starting his weekly column.

The former defender, who spent his whole career at Manchester United, has, since retiring from football, coached the England national team and served as a pundit for Sky Sports - a position his brother Phil was critically slammed for during the World Cup.

Gary Neville said: “I am delighted to join the Telegraph. I've got to think of ways of engaging with the readers like no-one has done before.

“Simple as that, I set myself the highest standard when I do something - what I've got to give them is something that they've not seen before, I want to do pieces that make people think differently."

Adam Sills, head of sport at Telegraph Media Group, said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming Gary Neville to the Telegraph. Gary is the best football expert around and he will make the Telegraph’s already unrivalled football offering even better.

“He will be sharing his opinion and insight every week to Telegraph readers in print and on our digital platforms and joins our unbeatable team led by Henry Winter and Paul Hayward.”

This comes after the newspaper let six sports reporters loose earlier this summer.
