VisitBritain is set to launch a campaign across Heathrow Airport to promote the North East of England after the region won £1m worth of advertising in a Facebook competiton.

Running on Heathrow Airport’s Facebook page, the activity asked the public to vote for their favourite British region - North East, North West, Midlands or Northern Ireland - to help it win £1m worth of free advertising at the airport.

In total, the four regions received over 40,000 votes over the past two weeks.

As a result, from the end of August until the end of November 2014 four ads for the North East will run across digital screens in all terminals at Heathrow

John Holland Kaye, Heathrow’s CEO, said that the airport sees around 73 million passengers.

“Wiith seven flights a day from Heathrow to Newcastle we hope the winning images will inspire passengers to explore the beautiful North East during their visit to the UK," he added.

The ads will be run as part of VisitBritain’s long running GREAT campaign.
