Netflix outage sparks Twitter frenzy

Popular media streaming service Netflix suffered an unexplained outage in the UK last night - fuelling a spike in social media mentions from Orange is the New Black starved telly addicts venturing online to find out where the problem arose.

The platform remains unavailable this morning after first encountering problems last night, with many subscribers now suffering withdrawal symptoms.

On Twitter alone analysis carried out by Topsy showed a spike in tweets mentioning ‘Netflix down’ from a baseline of around 500 per day on 30 July to 2k on 2 August. In a statement Netflix apologised for any ‘streaming issues’ experienced by customers and stressed that it was working to resolve the problems ‘as quickly as possible’.

The service was apparently still down for some users at the time of writing (4 August).
